On March 11, 2020, as a part of Canada’s response to COVID-19, the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced a $275 million investment to enhance Canada’s capacity in research and development. Through the Canadian Institute of Health Research, $25.8 million of this investment will go towards funding 49 new research teams. This doubles the number of existing research projects, bringing the total up to 96. These projects will help Canada generate evidence and contribute to the global efforts of understanding COVID-19. This research will also be essential for the development of effective vaccines, diagnostics, treatments and public health responses.
