On March 18, the Minister of Health, Patty Hajdu, signed an Interim Order to expedite access to COVID-19-related medical devices and diagnostic tests for use by healthcare providers. This order provides the Minister with the flexibility to consider the urgent circumstances relating to the need for the medical device, authorizations granted by foreign regulatory authorities, and possible new uses of approved devices. This order has already allowed two new diagnostic tests to be available in Canada. The Interim Order will remain in effect for 14 days, but may be extended for up to one year by the Governor in Council.
