A lung specialist and intensive care doctor explains how COVID-19 can wreak havoc on the body

Severity of the infection ranges from very mild and people not knowing they have the disease to those who need to be hospitalized. For those who have more serious symptoms, they present with shortness of breath and their oxygen levels are low because the virus has infected their lungs. These individuals need oxygen to help their lungs work properly. The virus also seems to impact the heart, so that their heart is not working properly. For those in critical care, they are on life support until their body can recover. It is not understood why some have more severe symptoms than others, but if you have other health issues or are older, your immune system is not as strong as it used to be and your ability to fight infections can be decreased.
