In order to create immediate jobs in the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $1.7 billion to clean up orphan and abandoned oil wells. This is expected to help maintain 5,200 jobs in Alberta alone where Premier Jason Kenny predicted that unemployment could rise to 25%. The aid was welcomed by all major party leaders as such projects create jobs for workers affected by the drop in oil prices and also contribute to environmental cleanup. Similarly, a $750 million emissions reduction fund will be established to create jobs through efforts to cut pollution. Further, $500 million will be put towards supporting Canadians who work in the arts, culture, and sports sector.
