India’s new coronavirus contact tracing app will be mandatory for all workers

The Aarogya Setu app (meaning Health Bridge) is a Bluetooth and GPS-based application launched last month in India which alerts users who may have come into contact with high-risk individuals or others who have been tested positive for COVID-19. The app is able to provide government authorities further information to control the spread of COVID-19, such as identifying COVID-19 hotspots. India now requires all public and private sector employees to use the app as lower-risk districts begin to ease restrictions. However, concerns over privacy and data usage have been raised, particularly over a lack of privacy laws governing the app.
