Liberals propose more COVID-19 sittings, summer sessions in new motion

A motion to be debated in the House of Commons on Monday proposes that Parliament’s special committee on COVID-19 meet for an additional day each week, on top of three existing sessions per week. This would involve a limited number of MPs convening in the House of Commons alongside members outside Ottawa, who would join via video-conference. This proposal is a departure from the government’s current arrangement of holding virtual committee meetings twice a week, with one in-person sitting once per week. The motion also proposes that the COVID-19 committee would convene four times during the summer. During these sessions, MPs would be able to question the Prime Minister and cabinet members on any topic.
