Alberta’s health minister Tyler Shandro has announced that the province is planning to distribute 20 million non-medical masks for free at drive-thru fast-food restaurants. Although mask use is not mandatory, this is part of the province’s strategy to keep Albertans safe as the economy reopens. These non-medical masks are meant to be used where physical distancing may not be possible such as public transit or shopping. The single-use, three-layer masks come in packages of four and will be distributed through drive-thru lanes at McDonald’s, A&W, and Tim Hortons. The province is spending close to $2 million on the project.
