The Ad5-nCoV vaccine developed by CanSino Biologics has been given approval by China’s Central Military Commission to be used by China’s military despite not having completed phase 3 of clinical trials on humans. This phase is usually considered the most important step for approval according to the CDC. The Ad5-nCoV vaccine has received approval for human testing in Canada as well. More than a dozen candidate vaccines from around the world are currently being tested in humans, although no vaccine yet has been approved for commercial use against COVID-19. Experts expect that the upcoming COVID-19 vaccine won’t be as protective as other vaccines, such as the measles vaccines.
